intricate icings | vendor’s we ♥ {gorgeous wedding cakes}

Rick and I have the pleasure of having worked with SO MANY amazing vendors throughout the years. We are often asked for our recommendations on the perfect DJ, an awesome florist, beautiful wedding cakes etc. What better way to show off our fellow vendors (and friends) than with big beautiful pictures of their work. This will be a regular feature so if you are wedding planning be sure to check back or click on the ‘vendors we ♥‘ category above.

This week we are featuring Intricate Icings out of Erie, CO. Owner, Rachael Teufel is a friend of ours and is out of this world AH-MAZE-ING at what she does. She has been competed with her breath taking cakes NUMEROUS times on the Food Network. If you can dream it she can make it. Without further ado here is more on Intricate Icings

How long have you been a cake artist?

I have always had a passion for art since I was a little girl.  I grew up baking with my family and didn’t really explore cake decorating until after I graduated College.  I made my first fully decorated cake in 2001 and haven’t stopped since.

Who or what got you started in the wedding industry?

Once I found my passion for cake decorating, I knew wedding cakes would be my focus.  I decided to look into everything that it takes to have a business and met a wonderful woman, Marie Jenkinson, owner of Lionsgate Event Center. She was the first person in the wedding industry to really give me a chance.  I was new, didn’t really have any experience, but she believed in me anyways.  She booked my first wedding cake in Colorado as an official business.

How would you describe your approach to cake artistry?

If I had to sum up our approach in one word it would be inspiration.  I absolutely love designing cakes and what I love even more is personalizing every cake we create.  It’s extremely important to bring the bride’s personal style to the design in every way possible.  I enjoy using things like her bridal gown, invitation, linens, color schemes and flowers as inspiration. I really try to create an image of what the entire event will look like before sketching the cake for them so that the cake suits the fell ans style of the reception.

How did you decide on your company name?

My husband and I were on a long car ride to visit his family and were talking about our future and where we thought we’d be in the next few years.  Of course opening my business was one of those things.  We just started brainstorming unique words that describe cakes.  And eventually we came up with Intricate Icings.

What do you remember most about the very first wedding cake you ever created?

My first wedding cake was actually for my mom. I was worried about it because she had picked a very simple design which meant the butter cream had to be flawless, since there wouldn’t be anything to cover up mistakes.  Maybe that’s why I tend to be such a perfectionist?  🙂

What is your favorite part of being a cake artist?

I love I am doing something extremely creative every day.  There just isn’t anything more satisfying than making someone smile with cake.

What do you find to be the most challenging part of your job?!

Paperwork!  It’s the least creative part of my job!

Where would be your dream destination wedding?

Anywhere with a beach!

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in everything, not just the ordinary things, like gowns and invitations.  I love fabric, china patterns, jewelry, just about anything!

How important in your opinion is hiring good wedding photographer when planning a wedding?

At the end of the wedding day, there are very few tangible things left after spending typically a year planning such a special day.  It is so important to have great photos to help you remember what the day was like.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I hope I’ll still be creating amazing cakes in my cute little boutique.  I love being a small company.  it’s gives me the opportunity to get to know my clients and flawlessly execute the design we created together.

What wedding industry blogs or websites do you read often?

I love Half Baked-The Cake Blog!  And Style Me Pretty!

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Probably Sixteen Candles.  I’m a love story and making dreams come true kind of girl.  What girl didn’t wan that to be Molly Ringwald?

What is one food that you absolutely cannot live without?

I cannot live with out Cheese.  Especially melted cheese!

Why should a newly engaged couple invest in a creative and professionally designed cake for their big day?

I really believe that this answer is different for every couple.  It could be that they are looking for a show stopping cake that their guests will remember for a lifetime.  It could be that they have an appreciation for the arts and really want a piece that is uniquely created for them.  Some couples simply want a a cake that tastes amazing.  Each couple has to choose what is important to them and then find a company that is able to provide everything that they are looking for.

What do you feel is the main thing that differentiates you from other cake artists?

I think Intricate Icings is one of the few companies around that is capable of creating great tasting cake, phenomenal designs, and wonderful customer service for every one of our clients.  We really pride ourselves in providing all of these elements to insure your cake is the highlight of the party.
